Ever since the publication of “Another Kind of Home” in the early 90’s we have seen large group care give way to small group care, sometimes still in campuses, but there is a growing acknowledgement that group care can create difficulties for young people who already have complex needs. There is also an acknowledgement that substitute families do not work for many young people.
In A Life Explored’s resources each young person has a very individualised needs-led care plan. We maintain the focus on the individual young person. In each of our resources there are only ever two young people.
Young people need room to expand and grow and need space to learn; each resource has a library/ study complete with internet access for young people. Information is power and the power of the internet needs to be harnessed and controlled to enable additional opportunities for growth to supplement their formal learning at school.
Adults at A Life Explored maintain and develop the young person’s focus on appropriate family contact. It may not be possible for a young person to return full-time to the family home but we actively seek opportunities to develop constructive family contact, for example by organising family meals in the house or community activities.
In times of austerity it is important to strike the right balance between quality and cost in order to achieve best value. We believe A Life Explored (Care) Ltd provides the right balance. For further information please contact Jill Neilson at jill@alifeexplored.com , download our brochure and referral paperwork or call Jill on 01592 655166.
