    OUR PHILOSOPHY AND APPROACH
As a trauma informed service we believe anything is possible for young people with the support of progressive and positive thinking adults.

A Life Explored (Care) Ltd provides an alternative to secure care providing intensive support and supervision to young people to allow them to move forward and break patterns of behaviour which is impacting on themselves, their families and the wider communities. Young people learn best by doing, by experimentation (Kolb & Fry, 1977: Baldwin & Williams, 1998). We involve young people in the running of the house and in following up their interests and ambitions. Each young person will always have an adult to support them in their tasks.

Life Explored (Care) Ltd only takes two young people at a time in each of the houses. This allows us to focus all our energies on the individual, their personal plan and their self development thus ensuring young people do not become embroiled in others issues and unhelpful behaviour.
    • Contact with family is central to settled living for us all. We ensure that family contact by phone, email and visits home or family visits to the house will be encouraged as agreed within a care plan. Family teas are common place and are encouraged for all young people.
    • We expect young people to go to school. It is also important to remember that maintaining a young person in their home school is key to future educational achievement. A Life Explored's adults will and do go the extra mile to support young people to stay at their own school, college or employment with people they know and environments they understand.
    • We expect young people to participate in the running of the house and to speak for themselves. We encourage wide ranging conversations around the table on all sorts of topics. We believe passionately in everyone's respect, dignity and individuality, adult and young person alike.
    • We don't like using sanctions so when we do they are short and discussed with a young person first - no surprises! We use incentives to reward positive behaviour and give young people insight into what they can achieve. We carry out 'functional assessment' to work out what works and all our adults are Calm trained and aim to manage behaviour with the minimum of fuss.
    • From time to time crises will happen. The adults will help sort out the issues and get the young person back on track as soon as possible.
